Project name:

Expansion Project – Tonnage increase from 33mtpa to 35mtpa

Project description:

Year: 2014

Location: Cape Lambert – Pannawonica, Western Australia

Client: Rio Tinto

Main project features: Design and implement a train operation to provide a sustained 2 mtpa gain in the rail supply chain for the Deepdale operation.

  • Designed a heavy haul train program that increased weekly train numbers from 39 to 42 by reducing cycle times from >25 hours to <24 hours
  • Increased unit size from 166 cars to 168 cars with no impact on planned or unplanned maintenance requirement.
  • Worked with RioTinto Operations centre in Perth (Train Control) to ensure priority given to Deepdale trains over Pool Fleet trains to ensure continued supply to dedicated ore dumper.
